We are proud to show some sketches of the new GUI (still in beta):

and this is the list of main changes:

    • Added a new type of button, called “flat button”. This button will replace the default berry button and give us a better controll on look and feel.
    • Cleaned up the header bar from those informations that are not inportant. Now it looks clean and readable.
    • On devices with trackball/trackpad/trackweel we have added a menu item for each of actions associated with a screen. On these devices we have also removed the top toolbar that confusing users. This is becouse the menu is available to users immediately, regardless of the position of the cursor on the screen. Buttons are static and require users to highlight the button in order to perform the associated action.
    • On devices touchscreen we have added a bottom bar as shortcut for the most used actions.
Holding a finger on an item in the bottom bar, displays a tooltip that describes the action that the icon represents.
    • Any comments or suggestions are really appreciated!
(You can test the new UI downloading the snapshot build release).

As you probably know the App Release 1.1 is available for download, and now it is time to look forward. We’ve just started working on new features that will be included in the next release. In particular, Keith is working on photo rotation feature, while i’m working on the UI front, plus adding a separate view for uploading media that isn’t tied to a post or page. If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, please feel free to contact us.

We have added some new features that will be available in the new app release:

    • Photo Resizing GUI improvements (thanks Keith!)

Added a listener to disable the resize fields when the “resize image” checkbox is not checked.
keep aspect ration opt, that on-fly calculates the dimension of the resized img and shows them on the screen.

    • New File Browser (Experimental)
    • First introduction of Touch Gestures:

Sliding a finger to the left or right quickly on the Comment screen displays the next or
    previous comment.

Here a sample video of these new features:

We are thinking to replace the current FileBrowser with this one:

It includes thumbs preview and basic actions on a file (delete/open/rename).

This component is available since JDE 5.0, so we should write a component that resembles it, using JDE 4.2.1 technology…

    do you have any suggestions?

Another component that could be upgraded is the date picker (btw, it’s not so important as the first one).

I’ve made some changes to make the UI more “confortable”.
In particular i’ve worked on how the app respond to UI events, overriding the default component implementation and have assigned a default action when the 4ways trackpad was clicked, or the enter key was pressed.
in my opinion the changes have made the app more confortable and usable, even if the gap between standard blackberry apps (that are “menu-centric”) and our app has grown.

This is the list of screens that were changed:

    • Categories screen : clicking the trackpad or hitting enter key, select or select a category
    • Comments screen: when in multiple mode, clicking the trackpad or hitting enter key, select or select a comment
    • Notifications screen: clicking the trackpad or hitting enter key, select or select a blog
    • Main screen (the screen with the blogs list) : clicking the trackpad or hitting enter key, show the selected blog
    • File Browser component : ….
